Les Mis! But of course, that's also a good adaption in that it manages to take a gigantic-sized novel and distill the most important themes, storylines and characters into a normal sized musical. With a lot of earworms! (And honestly, when it comes to Victor Hugo adaptions on a musical level, Verdi with Rigoletto is impossible to beat anyway.)
